Demand and production capability make the price and the import of wood pulp rise in Guangdong port. From Jan. to May this year, 426,000 tons wood pulp have been imported from Guangdong port, up 30% year-on-year, valued USD 200 million, up 46.9% year-on-year. The customs proposes to introduce "forestry-paper integration" method to relax the control price and amount in Guangdong port.
Along with the rising price of the wood pulp in international market this year, from Jan. to May, the average import price of wood pulp from Guangdong port is USD467.1 per ton, up 13.1% year-on-year. The average import price has been continuously increased since Feb., the import price in Feb. is USD 441.8 per ton, but it has reached USD 497.6 per ton by May
The rising amount and price of the imported wood pulp is mainly caused by the following reasons:
1). Since this year, many major international wood pulp suppliers have successively increased the market price of wood pulp.
2). China has become the second largest paper products consumer following US in the world, and its consumption of various paper and paper products accounts for 14% of the world consumption, in the meantime, China is comparatively shortage of forest resource. It is predicted that, by 2005, there will be 10 million tons paper pulp shortage in China's papermaking industry, and large raw material for paper making must depend on import.
3). China's zero tariff policy for wood pulp import has attracted the international papermaking industry to move into China, which caused wood pulp demand significantly increasing. Driven jointly by the demand and production capability, the import of China's wood pulp will continuously increase.
