Intellection has celebrated its fifth QEMSCAN® User Group forum with the official launch of a range of new QEMSCAN® products and capabilities. For more information please see our website for brochures available as pdfs for downloading.
New QEMSCAN® measurement capabilities
Our ongoing development has produced new capabilities for mineral measurement and analysis for the efficient discovery, extraction and beneficiation of iron ore, copper sulfides and bituminous coal.
Iron ore
- Suitable for use across a wide range of iron ore deposits, including BIF, BED, CID, Pilbara deposits, oolitic ores and magnetite ores
- Ability to discriminate hematite, magnetite, goethite and limonite
- Identification of key penalty elements including Al, S, P and Si
- Quantification of major/minor gangue phases including feldspars, carbonates, clays, chlorite and quartz
- Provides essential information for profitable iron ore beneficiation processes for lump, sinter or pellet production
Copper sulfides
- Suitable for mining of copper and other economic metals from a wide range of copper-bearing sulfide and oxide ores including classic porphyry Cu, stratabound Manto-type, fault-hosted Cu-specularitic, and island-arc porphyry Cu-Au
- Differentiation of 13 Cu ore minerals as major or minor phases, plus a wide range of refractory minerals, arsenides, phosphates and silicates as trace phases
- Identification of key companion elements such as Mo, Au, Ag and penalty elements including Sb, As, Pb, Zn, Cd and Hg
- Quantification of over 25 gangue minerals as major/minor phases including feldspars, carbonates, clays, chlorite, quartz, magnetite, and another 30 gangue minerals as trace phases
Bituminous coal
- Capable of analyzing and reporting on a wide range of ash forming minerals key to the profitable mining, beneficiation and utilization of bituminous coal including identification of key penalty elements such as sulfur, and some mercuric and radioactive elements
- Generates detailed and quantified information about excluded and included minerals, embedded within the coal particles themselves.
- Important for optimization of coal preparation processes to ensure efficient and low cost operation that addresses the reduction of undesirable components
- Helps power stations meet environmental and contractual obligations such as sulfur content, hazardous trace elements and fouling components
R-series QEMSCAN®
Following on from the launch at Pittcon in March of the prototype R-series QEMSCAN® designed for carrying out routine measurement and analysis of samples in the field, iUG08 featured a live demonstration of the R410, going from set up to operation in only 12 minutes.
Potential locations for using the QEMSCAN® R-series include mining and oil and gas exploration camps, mine sites, quarries, and minerals and coal processing facilities.
Each unit comprises the QEMSCAN® instrument and an operator workstation. The entire system folds and packs into a series of tough transportable roadcases, ready for transportation. The instrument has been "ruggedized" to suit field conditions, and made faster to install, simpler to use, and easier to service in the field. It has been designed to work in a normal office environment, rather than requiring a costly laboratory.
Its functionality is similar to that of the existing, larger QEMSCAN® E-Series, but with a simpler user interface and reduced range of options to keep it cost-effective for site use. Data measured by the R-series can be sent via the built-in remote access functionality for more complex analysis elsewhere, using the iDiscover™ software suite.
