Brief Introduction to Nansha Development Zone
On May 12th, 1993, Guangzhou Nansha Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China. In 2001, to accelerate the construction and development of Nansha Development Zone, Guangzhou Municipal Government established Construction Headquarters of Guangzhou Nansha Development Zone entrusted with full responsibility for the planning, land use, construction, management as well as inviting foreign investment within the zone, and with the authority of approval and management of investment projects at municipal level of Guangzhou.
According to the city planning of Guangzhou, the Planning Area of Nansha include all areas to the south of Shawan Channel in Panyun, Guangzhou, covering a total area of 797 square kilometers, in which 575 square kilometers are land, while Nansha Development Zone under the command of Headquarters of Guangzhou Nansha Development Zone covers a general area of 536 square kilometers, 330 square kilometers are land, including Huangge Town, Nansha Economic and Technological Development Zone, the southeast part of Lingshan Town, Hengli Town, the Pearl River Management Zone, Wanqingsha Town, Weiken Company of Panyu District. In accordance of the planning, Nansha will be developed into a modern industrial base including logistics sector, harbor-related sector, new and hi-tech industry.
Nansha area is densely covered by waterways and scattered with numerous lakes and ponds. It enjoys beautiful natural environment, with primarily arable land in the north and reclamation land in the sea entrance area in the south. Thanks to relatively small scale of existing construction, the natural elements of ecology are well preserved. Surrounded by water and standing by mountains, Nansha area also enjoys natural landscape and possesses of profoundly rich culture and history, which makes Nansha a tourist attraction, including Nansha Puzhou Park, Nansha Tianhou Palace, Suzhou Street of rivers and lakes, Nansha Golf Court, etc.
Geographic Location
Geographically, Nansha locates in the geometrical center of the Pearl River Delta£¬to the west of the Hu'men water bank that is at the mouth of the Pearl River, where Xijiang River, Beijing River and Dongjiang River join. Nansha is separated from Hu'men Dongguan in the east and neighbouring Zhongshan City in the west. 14 big or medium-sized cities are within a radius of 60 km. Nansha is a regional water and land communication hub. It leads to major ports abroad through the Pearl River. It is 38 nautical miles from Hong Kong and 41 nautical miles from Macao. In the aspect of air transportation, there are five international airports around, the Guangzhou Airport, Shenzhen Airport, Zhuhai Airport, Hongkong Airport and Macao Airport.
Prospects of Regional Development
Geographically, Nansha locates in the geometrical center of the Pearl River Delta. More than ten big or medium size cities are within a radius of 60 km and almost all the cities of the Pearl River Delta are within a radius of 100 km. Over 40 million people are living in this area and half of them are high consumers. Its strategic position will be highlighted by the megalopolis within the Pearl River Delta.
The Pearl River Delta is one of the most developed areas in China. It's one of the manufacturing centers of the world. The region has accommodated electronic companies, clothing companies and toy companies from all over the world. One tenth of consumer goods are manufactured in this area.
Corridor Connecting Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao
Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao, standing there like a three-leg tripod, will work together to promote the development of the cities around the Pearl River mouth. Nansha has an evident geographic advantage as it lies in the mouth of the Pearl River, the supporting position of "A" shape structure of Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao that serves as a crucial passage connecting the city cluster along the Pearl River (to Hong Kong and Macao).
